Tui Na is an ancient Chinese massage therapy which specialises in the treatment of pain (including arthritis, sciatica, muscle spasms, and joint pain) and emotional conditions by rebalancing the body’s natural energy. Patients from infants to the elderly can be treated whilst clothed and report feeling both relaxed and energised after the sessions. Tui Na, which dates back to 1700 BC, is the parent of most modern Asian and Western therapeutic massage forms. In the west we have similar treatment methodologies which are better known as chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists.
As with other styles of holistic treatments, Tui Na is designed to prevent problems, not just correct them. By keeping the body’s energy in balance, health is maintained. This is true not just for physical health, but for mental and emotional well-being as well. Tui Na uses rhythmic compression along energy channels of the body, as well as a variety of techniques that manipulate and lubricate the joints. Like acupressure, Tui Na directly affects the flow of energy by holding and pressing the body at acupressure points.
Tui Na is particularly effective on:
- Back pain
- Rheumatism and Arthritis
- Sports injuries
- Pain relief
- Neck pain and Frozen Shoulder
- Headaches and Migraines
- Stress and Anxiety
- Low energy
- Poor circulation
- Digestive Disorders
And much more….
Tui Na can be used as a treatment methodology in its own right, or in conjunction with western medicine.
Before treatment commences, the therapist will consult with each client to design an approach which is tailor made for their particular needs. In addition, the therapist will provide their clients with advice on how to continue these practices at home to enhance the treatment and encourage the body’s healing process.
